As a follow-up to the previous post, the Federal Government's ecoEnergy Grant and Rebate Program has been extended until March 31, 2012. However, the government has only allocated $400 million to the program this time around. This could mean that when that allotment of the federal budget has been used up, the program will end earlier than the publicized date of March 31, 2012.
So, if you're thinking about a home renovation, there has never been a better time to get started. Your potential grants and rebates are now the highest they have ever been. And, if you decide to move ahead with Ecowest, you have the option of deferring your payments until after Christmas. So, you can get your renovations done and get a federal government home renovation rebate without making a single payment until 2012.
A press conference was held today in Ottawa and it was announced that the Federal Government's ecoEnergy Program would be reinstated until March 31, 2012. This program provides a government grant of up to $5,000 to homeowners that have completed energy efficient home renovations. The actual amount of the grant depends on a number of factors including the type of work that is completed and the change in energy efficiency of the home.
There are two important changes to the program which will affect your eligibility:
Fortis BC has a new promotion running for fireplaces installed between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. Install an EnerChoice fireplace between these dates and you could qualify for a $300 rebate from Fortis BC - double the old rebate of $150!
To tell if your fireplace qualifies, please refer to the Fortis BC website which asks that you check the Energuide label on your fireplace to see if it meets their minimum efficiency ratings.
