How to Pick a Home Renovator (from the Globe and Mail)

We've written a number of blog posts in the past about how to pick a home renovation contractor.  And we've got content throughout our site that reinforces this commitment to our clients. It was encouraging today to see the Globe and Mail write a piece that has reiterated some very important points that every homeowner should be aware of when picking a home renovation contractor.  The following are the main points from the article which can be seen in Globe Life's Style section.

  • Get References: But don't just call them, meet them in person so you can see the work and ask questions.
  • Don't obsess over bids: It's not all about price. Trust and value are far more important.
  • Proper insurance: Both the homeowner and the company need to have the right insurance.
  • Get it in writing: Define the budget, scope and timeline. Sample contracts can be found at the CMHC.
We heartily agree with this article and enjoyed reading through the comments following...obviously a topic of interest to homeowners and contractors alike.
