A press conference was held today in Ottawa and it was announced that the Federal Government's ecoEnergy Program would be reinstated until March 31, 2012. This program provides a government grant of up to $5,000 to homeowners that have completed energy efficient home renovations. The actual amount of the grant depends on a number of factors including the type of work that is completed and the change in energy efficiency of the home.
There are two important changes to the program which will affect your eligibility:
- Homeowners must register directly with the program before booking their energy evaluation. You can find the registration links and instructions at the ecoEnergy website.
- Homeowners are now required to provide receipts to their energy advisor at the time of the post-retrofit evaluation to confirm eligibility for the grant.
You are still required to have an energy advisor in to evaluate your home twice - both before the renovations take place and after the work is completed - to determine your home's improvement in energy efficiency.
